Public realtions has changed drastically compared to what is was many years ago. Businesses and corporations felt no need for a public relations professional simply becuase they didn’t know what they did and the importance of someone underestanding the public. Journalists did not want to deal with them because they felt they weren’t accurate or truthful and found them in the way.

Today, the once print-oreinted profession has evolved into a very useful and necessary tool that knows no boundaries to whom it can reach and how the message gets there. The internet has opened many doors in how PR professionals communicate and deliver their messages; through email, blogging, websites, facebook, wikis, etc.

The future of public relations is burried in this techology and all the new advances that occur in it. I feel that, in the future, PR publications will only reach people and have an affect when they come through somewhere on the Internet. Newspapers will probably not be read as much as they are now, and they will lose their credibility.

I also think that in the future PR professionals are going to have to prove and fight for and maintin his/her credibility. Becuase everything around us has been touched by PR and now that the Internet is becoming the center of a practitioners job there are more ways that information could be false and more ways that practitioners could become unethical.

It is already hard for people to find jobs beginning in the PR world and in the future I feel that there is going to be a great problem with having even less job openings becuase so much of it is transferring to the internet.

Schooling for public relations is also going to get harder and require more computer classes than ever before because “technology has expanded the practice”. Also, students will have to come out of school with traditional writing styes (which I think will become less important as time goes on) and be knowledgeable about the other, newer styles that practitioners communicate.

A big question for the pulic relations field is, where is PR heading? Will it change dramatically or will it just adjust to the small changes that are inevitable.

I don’t think that public relations will ever take steps back from where it is now or will return to how it was in the past. Technology and new modern inovations, pretty much, make it impossible to go back. But, I also think that it will not change dramatically in the near future. All the changes that will occur will be gradual until there is a great change in how people opporate from day to day or if there is a dramatic change in advertising and trends that today’s culture has.

When things do begin to change, I don’t think that the process in which new releases are delivered will be different than they are now.

Facebook quickly became one of the most popular hobbies for a college student years ago, when it first appeared. Now that facebook as expanded its networks, not only to college students, but to hight school and city networks it is hard to find someone who has doesn’t have/has never had an account. Becuase there are so many people that use facebook and put pictures on their profile and comment to each other, there is a lot of information that is available to hundreds of people that may or may not be appropiate for the different types of publics. There is also the issue that there may be something said or shown that another person involved would not want to be put on the internet. For example, a person puts a picture on facebook and tags another person in in. If that other person does not feel the picture is ok to leave on facebook all they can really do is “un-tag”, but the picture will still be in the original album.

Of course to try and protect what is seen by one’s “friends”, networks, and random people who search for you facebook installed different privacy options, but how much do those options help keep one’s information private? If you block your profile from people who search you, your friends can still see certain things; if you block your friends they can’t see specific things or anything. Then the question arises, “what is the point of even having a facebook profile in the first place?”

There are also arguments that say once you put something on the internet, no matter where or on what database, it is forever and will always be on the internet and someone, somewhere, somehow will be able to see it.

All in all, if a person doesn’t want something to be seen by one or a number of people then they shouldn’t put it on a facebook profile, period! Even if you do block one person, more than likely they will have a friend or know someone who has access to everything. Therefore, facebook can’t ever really be absolutly private. If a person doesn’t want an employer, parent, girlfriend/boyfriend to see something on their profile the best thing is to not put it on in the first place or delete it immediately.

If something inappropiate is place on facebook it can determine whether you get the job or not, get in a fight with a loved one, or determine certain events in one’s social life. Everyone must be careful with what they put on their facebook, becuase you never know who will have the access to see it and how it will affect your life.

Isn’t it amazing how a beautiful day can completely change the attitude of a person. The recent Oklahoma weather, that has gone from freezing to perfect a number of times, has constantly been changing the way I feel by myself and around other people. Not only does the cold weather make me sick but it almost has a way of making me drag my feet and put less effort into everything. Although, today’s amazing 65 degree climate has put me in a chipper mood and kept me smiling all day.

I’m not saying that I am an unhappy or rude person when the weather isn’t nice and warm outside, it just has a completely different feel. As a matter of fact, it might not be that I prefer one climate over the other. It might just be spring teasing me is getting me eager for all the fun activities and times to come, like spring break. This situation does not only effect me. On a regular cold day one would typically see people walking, quite swiftly, to and from class, perhaps talking to the random people that they know. However, when the weather is nice I’ve noticed people take their time walking to class, talking to the many people that surround lidrary lawn with frisbees and softball mits. People walk with a smile on their face instead of under a scarf.

Winter is always fun for a little while but today has definately made me realize how ready I am, and I think the rest of campus is, for the spring weather to come and stay!
